About this item

  • Tips: Our products are more suitable for mixed cat litter or bentonite cat litter. For cat litter longer than 3 cm (tofu cat litter or other cat litter), we recommend breaking it up before use, so as not to shovel a large amount of clean cat litter into the pet stool collection box with a rake.

This is the one to get!
First off, I have a fractured spine. It was getting too painful to bed over, kneel down, and clean the litter box that I had made for my little feline friend Cleo. I saw an add for automatic litter boxes and hadn't realized that they had come so far since they were introduced. I spent two days watching reviews and going over features. The ELS Self Cleaning Litter Box is the one I decided on. There were cheaper ones, and more expensive ones, but this one had all the features that I was looking for. It's price was fair and it had a discount coupon so I decided to give it a try. I am so happy that I did because it was a life changer. The first decision to make was the design of the box. I decided that the Rake System was the better choice over the, spin around, types. The spin around kind all have a soft rubber liner that would have to be cleaned. They also have a lot more moving parts that can fail. Many of them also seem to suffer from urine leaking at the base of the liner. This doesn't seem to be avoidable because the liner is flexible. The rake works really smooth and the timer can be set to go off whenever you like. My cat is also a digger and I thought she would probable tear through the liner. The ELS was one of the few litter boxes with an automatic door on it as well. This keeps the sound of the rake down and the smells in while it is being deodorized and cleaned. Once the door is closed and it is done cleaning the UV lights do their work to sterilize the box to further reduce odors. It also is the only box I could find with such a large step in the front. I am glad I picked this one because the best litters to use are very lite, like fine sand. They track like crazy but work very good at adsorbing and clumping the waste. The step helps catch about 80% of the tracked litter before it gets to your floor. The grate comes off the step very easy and allows you to put the litter back in the box.I haven't used the sleep timer at night because it is not that loud. It is right next to my bedroom and I don't notice it at all.My cat doesn't dig like she used to because she isn't trying to cover up, move, and find a new spot to do her business. She also doesn't shed as much and her coat is a lot softer and cleaner. The reduction in shedding is because she was stressed from having to dig and find a place to relive herself. She stays cleaner because there is no dust being kicked up from the litter. This keeps her coat soft and shinny and, overall, healthier.I do use Sustainably Yours Natural Cat Litter in the box. It really is dust free, I know all litters say that, but none of them actually are. The litter I was using said it was 99% dust free and it kicked up just as much dust as cheap clay litter. Sustainably Yours Natural Cat Litter is an all natural, biodegradable, and super absorbent litter. That was the big problem with all the other litters. When I would go to clean the clumps would be stuck to the bottom of the box and I would have to scrape them free. Sustainably Yours Natural Cat Litter does it job so well, and fast, that the deposits get sucked up and turned into lumps so fast that it never gets the chance to reach the bottom of the box.Now on to the ELS customer service department. They are fantastic! I had a small problem with my initial order and they wanted, I mean really wanted, to fix it and make sure I was happy. I sent them pictures of what was wrong and they corrected it the very next day. Customer service like that is almost extinct nowadays. They were not aware of my health or financial status so I know it wasn't them just being good so the disabled person doesn't say anything bad. They really wanted to help and they did. I am a very happy customer and I hope that this review makes you one too.

The door will close to clean and then beep several times, open, but nothing was cleaned and the poop bag will be empty. I’ve tried resetting the machine and turning it off and back on, it hasn’t worked. Long story short, the rake kept getting stuck. I reached out to the Elspet support and their communication is terrible. They got back to me to try something and then never responded back after. I was very disappointed and returned the item.

I have 3 cats and feel like I'm loosing to the litter box. I decided to put out the money for a box that would save me trouble. The price wasn't bad and the fact that larger cats could use it won me over. I have had this box about 7 months and I still can't get it to work right. It never synced with my phone. The rake is constantly getting stuck. The door stopped working by the 2nd month. In order to free up the rake you have to almost climb inside of this dirty box. I'm ready to throw this electronic that was a few hundred dollars in trash and go back to the old box. As an added bonus however, it lights up the whole room and the cats are ready to fight it when it starts cleaning because it's so loud. DO NOT BUY.

It was with some hesitation that I bought this because we use a common brand of mixed tofu and bentonite litter. The original posting showed this as acceptable. That has since been removed, and the rating of the product is substantially lower than it originally was. To be fair, the unit does some things well. The pros are: a convenient waste receptacle, a good video to aid in set-up, great handles for moving the unit, a handy step that does help contain litter tracking, and it should be easy to clean because of how the rakes remove and how the bottom of the unit slides out with the litter in it. The cons are: mediocre to poor written instructions, a mediocre app with no detail for multiple cats, it dumps a HUGE amount of clean litter into the waste receptacle, it doesn't level the litter after raking so there's none in the front of the box, it seems much louder than advertised, a short power cord, and the waste receptacle is impossible to open without moving the box if there's anything behind the unit. Unless you use a fine litter (or perhaps their version of a mixed litter), do not buy this expecting it to work for other common tofu litter mixes.
Extra Note: The rake had several chunks of waste stuck in it after just a few days. Also, the way it rakes did not remove anything that was not near the surface.

Does NOT work for common mixed litter or tofu litter!

This product lasted a few months & had trouble working even during those few months! I’m on the lung transplant list & not supposed to handle cat litter due to my health. I bought this in hopes of minimizing my contact with the litter to avoid getting rid of my cat. I’m also on a tight budget so this not working & then breaking down completely was a massive disappointment!! I even cried…literally… The bar to sweep through the litter is frozen in place. There’s no moving it manually or with resetting the app, turning off/on or anything. I’m using the tray by itself as my litter box because I can’t even afford a better manual one! All in all I haven’t given my cat away yet….shes such a comfort to me living alone with my illness that I just can’t part with her but I’m so disappointed with this product that I still am very angry about it!! Don’t buy it! Not worth the anguish & disappointment!
