KitchenAid is one brand that has been known to homemakers for years, but definitely for the bakers in the family. However, for a lot of people making your own ice cream one of the last brands you may think of is KitchenAid. Well, I am here to tell you that KitchenAid has its own ice cream maker. Now, the downside is the is an attachment for the KitchenAid Stand Mixer. I have to admit, as a marketing ploy and for any loyal KitchenAid owners this is an ingenious way to keep customers buying the brand. With that being said, it is time for us to do our KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment review in our continuing series of ice cream makers.

Features Of The Attachment

  • The bowl is a 2-quart double insulated bowl.
  • The bowl comes with its own plastic paddle meant for ice cream use.
  • Once cold the ice cream is ready in 20-30 minutes.
  • Specifically formulated liquid inside the walls allows for even freezing in the bowl.

Is The Attachment Independent From Anything Else

Okay, as I have said before and I consider this a major drawback is the Maker Attachment does require a KitchenAid Mixer to work. This alone will take what looks like an affordable ice cream maker at around eighty bucks to over three hundred bucks. On the plus side, though, if you do get the KitchenAid stand mixer it is versatile and you can start to use it for making brownies, cookies, or even buying the pasta attachment.

How Easy Is The Maker To Use

Well, the process of using this ice cream maker is very easy. I mean, it is easy enough that you can even have kids make it if you do not mind them using a stand mixer. The main part is making sure that the ice cream maker is completely frozen as it will help you make your ice cream even faster than what you were expecting. The downside is the attachment has to be frozen for it to work properly.

How Much Ice Cream Does The Maker Make

You would think that with a stand mixer helping to get the ice cream made that you would be able to make quite a bit of ice cream at once. However, I will tell you that this is an ice cream maker that will make roughly 2 quarts of ice cream at a time. So this is quite a bit of ice cream, but if you have a larger family like I have then it is not really going to be that much ice cream to have on hand.

What Kind Of Time Frame From Start To Eating Ice Cream

With any of the ice cream makers that I have talked about I really want to know how long until I get to finally sit down and enjoy a bowl of ice cream. Well, the ice cream from the KitchenAid will be done in about 30 minutes, if your bowl is frozen! The bowls being frozen is key for any of the ice cream makers. However, it is important to remember if you want a more solid ice cream instead of a softer ice cream you can pop the bowl back into the freezer for an even harder freeze.

How Does The Maker Attachment Work

The way the maker here works is fairly easy. The first thing you have to do is make sure you have the bowl frozen solid. The colder the bowl is the better your ice cream will taste and the less time it takes to whip it up. After you have already gotten your bowl frozen it is as simple as hooking up the bowl to your mixer, but also putting the plastic paddle on the mixer head. Once you do this it will be easy for you to make the ice cream as you just have to follow the recipe you are using for your ice cream.

What I Like About The Ice Cream Maker

I love the fact that the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachement is one that will take nearly no time to prepare the ice cream. Now, the downside is that is only possible if the bowl is frozen beforehand and in some cases that can take up to 24 hours before the bowl will be completely frozen and ready to use. Still, if it is completely frozen and you follow the recipe closely you will go from just a few ingredients to ice cream in just a few minutes.

What I Dislike About The Ice Cream Maker

I have to admit that the one thing that I do not like about this is the fact that it requires a KitchenAid stand mixer. For me that is a mute point as I already have the mixer and the attachment both, but for some people buying both of these at the same time can be cost prohibitive for a lot of people. If this was a standalone ice cream maker, I think it would work better for a lot of people’s needs.

What Others Are Saying About The KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment

A reviewer on Amazon had this to say about the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment Review, “as long as instructions were followed, it went perfectly.” As you can tell this makes it easier to see that just simply following the directions makes it easier for the ice cream to be prepared and ready to be eaten in a timely manner.

Another reviewer from Amazon did leave a five star review, but had this to say, which I did mention above, “the attachment does need to chill in the freezer for a period of time”. Well, that is what I have already said earlier and this just reiterates this, but it after it is chilled, which the reviewer mentioned should be 24 hours, it will work perfectly and get your ice cream ready in no time at all, remember the 20 minute time frame I talked about earlier.

My Final Thoughts On The KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment

I have to say after using and reviewing this ice cream maker it is overall not that bad. It does have a fairly bad rap because it does require the stand mixer to work properly, but it is nice that it makes ice cream rather easily and nicely in a short time frame, but only if the bowl is fully frozen. Overall, if you have a KitchenAid stand mixer and want an additional attachment the KitchenAid ice cream maker Attachment review is a great item to add to your cooking cabinet. If not, though, the mixer is not meant for you.
