The Best Under Twenty Bucks

Cast iron is one of those types of cookware that has gone by the wayside because people enjoy the ease of getting the ease of cleaning with non-stick cookware, but for some people, they still enjoy the cast iron cookware. However, before you go out and buy the first piece of cast iron for your kitchen you should know more about the best under twenty bucks. This is a challenge because you will notice in most stores and online you will find a couple of brands that are in the market and the prices for one is really low, but the price for the other type of cast iron cookware has a tendency to be quite a bit higher. Well, in this article, I am going to cover what the best skillet is under 20 dollars to help you pick out a quality skillet that will last you for a long period of time, but also make a breeze for you to do from start to finish.

What Skillet Do I Like The Most

Now, this is one of those things that took me quite a bit of time to do and that was narrow down which one of the cast iron skillets I liked the most under the price that I find fairly affordable. You may not think about this at first, but you need to realize I had to look hard at the different skillets on the market and found the ones for the twenty dollar limit to be very limited in the selection. However, what I really liked about this option is the fact it did not really take away from the quality of the brand I was able to find. With that being the case the best skillet I found for the price range that was set forth is the Lodge L8SK3 which measures 10.25 inches and is a solid cast iron skillet.

Features Of The Lodge Skillet Made Of Cast Iron

  • The skillet is made of cast iron and unlike some of the other brands that we have looked at before it is very durable and thick. This is going to allow you to have the be completed evenly and know it is going to provide you with the you want to have completed and know the food will be done faster than what you imagined.
  • Since this is a cast iron cookware, a solid piece of cast iron with a solid handle, it has a tendency to hold the heat quite a bit better than what you would expect. Since this holds the heat so well it is going to be easier for you to get the cooking done that you want to, but also know once you pull it off of the heat it will continue to cook.
  • A front handle on the front of the skillet is going to make it easier for you to carry the skillet around and not have to be concerned about trying to figure out how you can carry the skillet around when the handle is a little bit on the short side for a skillet, but that is fine with the extra handle on the front.

What I Like About The Lodge L8SK3

I have to admit one of the main things that I really love about this is the fact it is a Lodge brand product. Since this is a product by Lodge it makes it easier for me to know the quality of the product is going to last. Lodge has been around for quite a few years now and it is definitely a brand you can trust. In fact, my grandmother used Lodge when she was coking for my mom, which is obviously well before I was born and I will not reveal my mom’s age, but let’s just say its over a half-century.

The thickness of the bottom of the skillet is something else that I really like with this skillet. With a lot of the skillets that I have used in the past, the bottom has been so small that it is nearly impossible to get the skillet to cook any food or have any type of heat retention. The L8SK3 has a thicker bottom and that has a tendency to allow it to have a very even cooking and not a lot of heat loss as the skillet is going to cook the food properly.

A front handle is very important when you are using a cast iron skillet. I do not care who you are, the cast iron without the assist handle on the front is very awkward and difficult to carry. In fact, it can be so difficult at times that it is very easy for you to spill the pan and if you have just finished frying up bacon or other greasy foods then you know this is going to be a major issue and can easily lead to burns both on yourself and the floor.

What I Did Not Care For With The Lodge Cast Iron Skillet

The handle on the main grip part is rather short. I know this is mainly because you want to have a handle that is up close to help control the weight better. However, with this skillet, I would have liked to have seen a little bit longer handle. This would make it easier for me to control the skillet, but also help me out when I have only a single free hand at the time, like when I am moving this to a different burner and already have the other hand moving another skillet.

My Final Thoughts On The Cast Iron Skillet By Lodge

Cast iron cookware will definitely last you for a long period of time and that is why it cost so much money. However, sometimes you want to start off at a lower price range and the best option is usually to find a decent skillet for an affordable price. For the sake of this article, I selected the reasonable price to be twenty bucks and then did some research and testing and found what I feel is the best cast iron skillet under twenty bucks and that is the Lodge L8SK3. This skillet is sure to be just the starter to your cast iron cookware, but it is a piece you will fall in love with.
